Try, Try Again

I had an interesting conversation with a friend about her re-entrance into the job market after trying her hand at entrepreneurship. Prior to starting her consulting company, she was a project manager, having worked for some major industry players in high pressure, high stress environments. She endured thus becoming a very successful project manager. So, she took those skills (and others) on the road! She had a terrific tour, tackled some interesting problems but after a few years, decided to pivot back into a full-time job. Not that entrepreneurship was too hard but she's still figuring out who she is, who she wants to serve and how she's going to serve. Awesome, right?

This week's post is for those who are pivoting from one career to the next. And, why not? Our lives are short and there are so many interesting things to do! Just because you've been a PM or a nurse or a teacher for 15 years, doesn't mean you have to that job for the duration of your life. With so much advanced technology & tools at our disposal, I'm surprised more people haven't moved away from corporate America to their own gigs. However, there are always extenuating circumstances when one must return to an FTE, maybe for benefits, maybe projects are underwhelming or god forbid, not getting paid.

Pivoting can be challenging because the unknowns are ever present. However, I think it's better to try than not. I mean, what if your idea really takes off? If it doesn't take off and you have to pivot again, then I'll applaud you for giving it an honest to God shot. And, just because you didn't make it this go-around, doesn't mean you won't the next time. Keep trying! Try, try again until you find your niche, your people, your projects.

Happy job hunting!
