Don't Go Around The Recruiter

The job market is crazy these days. So many reductions in the workforce, candidates are eager to find their next job. After a moment of silence, they hop on LinkedIn and network the heck outta themselves! An overzealous candidate finds a technical person at the company they want to work at and sends an InMail or an email. Often times, the technical person responds and encourages them to reach out to the company recruiter. The candidate fights this because they see recruiters as a nuisance. They want to have technical discussions. They want to avoid touchy/feely subjects like why their last gig was only 4 months or why there's a gaping hole in their resume.

I totally get it but let us (I'm speaking for all talent acquisition professionals) help you! We're not here to rule you out; we're fact finding for the role, the hiring manager and the company. We're also fact finding for you to ensure it's a good fit. Another way of looking at it, the recruiter call isn't about impeding the process rather, it's about ensuring you get into the process! This is usually the case unless the company is comprised of 2 people, the CEO & her cat. Yes, at that point, feel free to go around the cat but 99% of the time, a candidate at some point will have to speak with the recruiter and in my opinion, these conversations are much more effective when they're had at the beginning of the process. Because as you near the end, it's hard for the recruiter to be your advocate when they know nothing about you, your motivations etc.

Keep pushing to get that next role but partner with your recruiter to ensure your recruitment process is awesome, fun & rewarding!

Happy job hunting!
